Paul Miller

Paul Miller, Founder

Paul Miller is the Founder of Lehigh Valley Martial Artsand Active Learning Centers and currently serves as its Chief Executive Officer. The first location opened in Emmaus, PA more than 20 years ago followed by three more locations (in Breinigsville, Fogelsville, and Palmer Township) in recent years. Master Miller oversees the Martial Arts instruction of all three schools and personally trains all of the instructors. He continues to teach classes at all locations on a regular basis. 

Shigung (Chinese) and Shihan (Japanese) meaning "teacher of teachers" began his martial arts' training at the age of 16 in Reading, PA, and has been training in martial arts for over 45 years. He earned a 5th degree black belt and the rank of Shihan in Kyokushin Kai Karate. After 20 years of Karate practice, he began learning Kung Fu and this lead him to Tai Chi, which has become the main focus of his own practice and his instruction of others. He currently trains under the direction of B.K. Frantzis and has trained under the instruction of Master Jason Ward, Master Scott Felsen, Guru Bernie Langan and multiple other teachers.

Master Miller has also completed training in Levels I, II,and III in Spring Forest Qigong under the direction of Master Chunyi Lin. In addition to the internal Martial Arts he has studied the art of massage to better understand how the body moves.

Master Miller has operated his own martial arts' school for more than 20 years and trained over 1000 black belts and countless instructors. At the present time he focuses on passing on the knowledge he has learned to his students and instructors.


Zach Miller

Zachary Miller, Shifu

Shifu Zachary Miller is a graduate of DeSalles University with a degree in Biology. He is currently in charge of all curriculum taught at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, is the Chief Instructor for all locations, is a board member for Active Learning Centers and Lehigh Valley Martial Arts and serves as Chief Operating Officer. Shifu Miller has over 25 years of martial arts experience under the instruction of his father Master Paul Miller. He started his training in the arts of Kyokushinkai Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When he was 15 he started training in Kung Fu and the internal arts of Tai Chi, Ba Gua, and Xing-yi. At the age of 18, he advanced to instructor level in Karate and Kung Fu and has taught 1000's of students over his time teaching. He currently holds the rank of 5th Degree Black Belt in Karate and 5th Level Black Sash in Kung Fu.

He continues his training in martial arts under the instruction of Master Paul Miller.


Mark Pruitt

John "Mark" Pruitt, Shifu

Shifu Mark is a graduate of Kutztown University with a degree in Business and is currently the Head Instructor of the Emmaus branch or Lehigh Valley Martial Arts and is responsible for the development of the Leadership Program taught to both adults and children.

Shifu Mark started training in the Martial Arts at age 10. He trained at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts in the art of Kyokushin Karate. He started training with his sister and eventually with his father. He persevered and achieved his first degree black belt at age 15. Since that time he has continued his studies in the art of Kung Fu and Tai Chi. He attained instructor rank at age 18.

Shifu Mark currently holds the rank of 4th Level Black Sash in Kung Fu and 2nd Degree Black Belt in Karate.

He continues his own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Dana Eldridge

Dana Eldridge, Sensei / Shifu

Sensei Dana earned a black belt in Kyokushin Kai Karate in November 1997 and became an assistant instructor in February 1998. She earned full instructorship and operated a Kyokushin school from 1999 through 2004. In April of 2004, Dana joined her friend and mentor, Master Paul Miller, at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, to pursue the deeper knowledge that Kung Fu and Tai Chi have to offer.

Sensei Dana has also trained in Spring Forest Qi Gong, completing Levels I and II under the direction of Master Chunyi Lin. She is responsible for the development of the pre-school and toddler program, which addresses the unique needs of children ages 2-5 and has also developed women's safety programs, which have been presented at universities throughout Bucks and Lehigh counties. Sensei Dana also authored a "Safe Kids, Strong Families" program to teach safety techniques to children and their parents.

In 2010, Sensei Dana returned to her first love, Kyokushin Karate as the Head Instructor of the new Fogelsville location, a position she enjoyed until 2016 when she oversaw the launch of LVMA's newest location in Palmer Township. Today, Sensei Dana works with all LVMA and Active Learning Center locations. She serves as the company's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, the Vice President of Human Resources, and sits on the company's board of directors. You can also find Sensei Dana teaching in any one of our locations.

She continues her own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Alex Oleksa

Alex Oleksa, Shifu

Sensei Alex began his Martial Arts training at age 10 in Kyokushin Kai Karate. He achieved his first black belt at age 15 and then shortly after he began his training in Kung Fu. Once he earned the rank of Shifu in 2004, he began teaching at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts in Emmaus, PA under the instruction of Shigung Paul Miller.

Sensei Alex is motivated by not only the physical training of Martial Arts; he also enjoys applying the theories and concepts to everyday activities. He takes great pride in his teaching and sharing his knowledge with his students as well as learning from them.

Sensei Alex has served as Shifu and Head Instructor of the Breinigsville location and is currently the Sensei and Head Instructor of the Fogelsville location.

He continues his own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Crystal Klein

Crystal Klein, Shifu

Shifu Crystal began martial arts in the 1970's and achieved a green belt in Tae Kwon Do. In 2003, she came to Lehigh Valley Martial Arts looking for a program for herself and her daughters. After she participated in a few classes with Master Paul Miller she knew she found her "home" to practice martial arts again.

Shifu Crystal worked hard to attain her black sash at just over the age of fifty. She believes the essential component of her success in a martial arts was the egoless teaching style of her instructors. With that spirit in mind, she began training in Tai Chi, also under the direction of Master Miller, to deepen her knowledge.

Shifu Crystal now holds instructor status in both Kung Fu and Tai Chi and is the Head Instructor for Tai Chi at the Palmer location. She can also be found instructing Tai Chi in the Emmaus location, around the community and in senior groups.

Shifu Crystal currently holds the rank of 3rd Level Black Sash and continues her training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Shifu Dave Jones

Shifu David Jones began his training in Judo and Jiu Jitsu while serving in the Air Force. After returning to home to the Lehigh Valley in 2005 , he began looking to broaden his knowledge of martial arts . This journey lead him to LVMA where he studied Kung Fu Tai Chi, and Kyokushin Kai Karate under Shigung Paul Miller. Shifu also has a passion for the healing arts, he has been studying Qi Gong, Meditation and other forms of healing for the last 8 years. In 2012, Shifu Dave earned the rank of instructor. As a teacher, Shifu strives to bring out the best in each student he works with. He teaches at the Breinigsville location.

He continues his own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Shifu Lorraine Walters

Shifu Lorraine Walters began her martial arts training in February 2005 when she began training in Tai Chi and Quigong under the direction of Master Paul Miller. Her goal was to become stronger, improve balance and coordination as well as her mental wellbeing. She feels that Tai Chi allows her to take care of herself so that she may take care of others.

In early 2008 Shifu began training in Kung Fu at the encouragement of her children who were training in the art.

In 2011, Shifu earned her Black Sash in Kung Fu.

Today, Shifu is a 2nd Level Black Sash and Instructor of Tai Chi and she instructs at the Emmaus location.

She continues her own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Sensei Stan Chan

Sensei Chan first started training in Kyokushin Kai Karate in 1997 at the age of 7. He earned his black belt in 2001.  In 2002, he began training at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts under Master Paul Miller to further his experience in Kyokushin Kai Karate and then training in Kung Fu. 

In 2005, Sensei took a hiatus from martial arts to pursue high school sports. He played football and wrestled for Emmaus High School.  Sensei states that his martial arts training helped to him to understand how the body works and the discipline he acquired help him to push through tough workouts. 

After graduating from East Stroudsburg with honors in 2012, he returned to Lehigh Valley Martial Arts as a program director at LVMA Fogelsville. Under the guidance of Master Paul Miller, Sensei/Shifu Zach Miller, and Sensei Dana Eldridge, he achieved the rank Deshi in 2013 and then Sensei in 2015. He continues to teach at our Fogelsville. 

He continues his own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.


Loashi Marcel Broadway

Laoshi Marcel began training in the martial arts as an adult, following the desire to be involved in a physically healthy but mentally challenging activity.  She was introduced to martial arts classes as a result of her son's enrollment in childcare at Active Learning Center, and his enthusiasm in martial arts classes starting in first grade.

Laoshi has been training in Kung Fu since 2009 under the direction of multiple talented instructors and Master Paul Miller. She earned her Black Sash in 2013 and began training to become an instructor earning assistant instructorship in 2014, and both her 2nd degree and full instructorship in 2015. Third degree Laoshi quickly followed in 2016. Laoshi Marcel holds a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Florida State University. She currently teaches classes at the Breinigsville location and is a coach on the LVMA Demonstration Team.

She continues her own training under the direction of Master Paul Miller.

Jacob Oberholtzer, Deshi

Jacob Oberholtzer, Deshi

Jacob Oberholtzer earned his first black belt in 1992 in Kyokushin Karate at the age of 13. After a 15 year absence from training Jacob started training at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts under Sensei Dana Eldridge earning his first degree black belt in 2015. In 2016 Jacob earned his 2nd degree black belt and in August of 2017 Jacob became a Deshi. Jacob finds his greatest joy in passing along the martial art he learned as a child to his students.

He continues his training under the direction of Master Paul Miller. 


Erica Yozell, Laoshi

Erica Yozell, Laoshi

Laoshi Erica began training in Kung Fu with Shifu Zachary Miller when her son began taking classes at the Emmaus location. A conversation with Master Paul Miller led to trying Tai Chi soon after that. She quickly discovered a strong desire to learn and to teach martial arts.

Laoshi earned her black sash in Kung Fu and became an Assistant Instructor in 2016. In 2017, she earned the her instructor title (Laoshi) along with second level black sash in Kung Fu and, later that year, her first degree black belt in Kyokushinkai Karate and the title of Deshi. She holds a B.A. from Brown University and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is currently an instructor at the Breinigsville (Macungie) location. 

She continues her training under the direction of Master Paul Miller. 


Dan Gotthard, Laoshi

Dan Gotthard, Laoshi

Laoshi Dan is a veteran of the United States Navy, holds a Master’s in Education from Lynchburg College and a Bachelors in History from the University of Minnesota as well as a teaching certification in Social Studies from Muhlenberg College.

He began his training in martial arts with his children in 2012 at LVMA’s Emmaus location where he continues to train and teach today. After much dedicated training, Dan achieved his 1st Level Black Sash in 2015. In 2016, he earned his 2nd Level Black Sash as well as his martial arts teaching certification.

He continues his training at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts Emmaus with his children under the direction of both Shifu Mark Pruitt and Master Paul Miller.


Gabriel Walters, Laoshi

Laoshi Gabriel Walters began training at Lehigh Valley Martial Arts in June of 2006 at the age of 7. He earned his 1st Level Black Sash in 2011 at the age of 12. With guidance from Shifu Zach Miller, Gabriel became an Assistant Instructor in 2013 and eventually a full instructor, Laoshi, in 2016. Gabriel is currently a 4th Level Black Sash and an instructor at the Emmaus Location.

Gabriel graduated from Emmaus High School in 2017 and in currently in school to become a Physical Therapist.

Laoshi Gabriel continues his training under the direction of Shifu Mark Pruitt and Master Paul Miller.


Jessica Licker, Shigumae

Shigumae Jessica is a student at Kutztown University in the Honors Program in the Secondary Education Mathematics Program with a targeted graduation date of May 2021. 

She started Kung Fu training in the summer of 2014 after making a friend in her freshman year of high school who was a black sash at the LVMA Emmaus location who rekindled her interest in martial arts. As a result, Jess currently holds a black sash of her own and is enrolled in the instructor training program.

Shigumae Jess is currently the Little Ninja instructor at LVMA’s Breinigsville location. She enjoys teaching Little Ninjas because the students have a really unique point of view on what they are learning. They see things with fresh eyes, and give her a new perspective on what she is teaching as well as what she is learning in her own classes.
